Finest ground green tea. Sounds boring? But it's hip and known as a superfood! Rich in valuable ingredients and power for the whole day.
What is Matcha actually?
Matcha is high-quality, powdered green tea of the highest quality and is one of the oldest types of tea in Japan. It has been used by Zen Buddhist monks for meditation for over 800 years. Matcha tea leaves are shaded while they grow, and the freshly dried leaves are slowly ground into a fine, jade-green powder in granite stone mills after harvesting. A stone mill grinds around 30-40g of tea in an hour, which is roughly equivalent to a can of Matcha.
When it comes to Matcha, you can rely on tested quality . Our laboratory tests every Matcha we buy for possible pesticide residues or radioactivity before it is shipped to Germany. This is one of the reasons why we have chosen 100% organic Matcha tea.
Preparation of Matcha
In contrast to leaf tea, Matcha tea is traditionally whipped into a foam in a Matcha bowl (Chawan) with a special Matcha whisk made of bamboo (Chasen) and then drunk straight away. The Matcha powder is measured out with a special bamboo spoon, the so-called Chashaku. After some hot water (around 60-80° C) has been added, the Matcha is foamed in quick Z-shaped movements.
Anyone who foams their own Matcha in this way will slowly be able to feel the fascination of the Japanese tea ceremony. The pleasant sound of the bamboo whisking the tea finely and the slowly rising aroma of the Matcha awaken the senses.
